PILATES & THE METHOD PILATES CERTIFICATION

Your choice of the organization that certifies you as a Pilates instructor is one of the most important that you will make in your professional life. It’s not an easy choice. There are now many organizations that claim they can certify you.

But if you want the organization that was the first in the Pilates field…
that offers the most evolved training…
that is responsive and professionally organized… and that is actually the most economical in the long run…
suddenly the decision is much easier because there is only one organization that fits that profile: The Pilates PhysicalMind Institute( logo)

You know that Pilates is the number one trend in fitness. Way back in 1991, The Pilates PhysicalMind Institute developed the first Pilates certification. And this development goes on: PMI has completed a major revision of all of our training materials to reflect the latest research and client needs.

You probably know that PMI programs teach the original Pilates exercises informed by the importance of the pelvic floor and the need for weight-bearing, functional fitness. But we’ve done so much more.

As the innovator in Pilates certification, the Institute has created two new ways to access Pilates. First, we have lifted it off the floor and reconfigured it to Standing Pilates, and we have redesigned the Chair apparatus so that it is easy to use and to learn. These two developments mean that Pilates is even more accessible for your clients. For you it means new material that can be taught in a smaller space with a modest investment.

Pilates is NOT a fad that may soon run its course. It is a vast and very adaptable body of work that is just getting its legs. In fact, it is perfect timing as we address the needs of our aging population. And, the Institute has the correct programs, the experience and the reach to make Pilates training work for you. The Method Pilates certification is the best way to ensure your future

Many prospective teachers think they are being fully trained when all they really learn is exercise choreography and the misunderstood technique that we call Level 1. Some people do get training that’s more contemporary that focuses on neutral spine and scapular stability, or Level II which we initiated in 1991. While this training is valid and correct, it is not as body-changing as Level Three which is The Method Pilates current program that is deeper, easier to learn, more functional, and, of course, bio-mechanically correct.

So how do you compare the certification/training choices? There are a few super-sized companies trying to teach Pilates; some people call them the General Motors of this business. But we know how GM is doing today. It’s not a pretty picture.

Then there are the studios that add on a training program to pick up the slack when studio clients are not there. Sometimes this training is good, but it is hit and miss at best. Of course, there are the 3 hour workshop trainings that are run by the same people that were on the aerobics band wagon when that was hot. Finally, there are now NON-Teaching organizations that just want you to take a written test.

Still it is often hard to select a program, what with all the videos, workshops, and manuals available. One test is material design. Any manual or video designed for professional Pilates teachers that breaks the exercises into Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced designations should tell you that the people who wrote it don’t understand Pilates. These are artificial designations that make no sense. Pilates has 9 spinal exercises; the rest is choreography. If people try to tell you there are 500 or 5000 exercises, then they don’t know what they are doing. How they teach is by rote learning which is the longest and hardest way to learn anything, particularly when as a teacher, you need to be able to think on your feet and handle what comes into your studio.

TheMethodPilates teaches you to look at and analyze bodies; we take you to a level of deeper understanding and stronger connections so that you will be secure in the knowledge that you are capable of teaching, not just performing exercises. And this brings another benefit: You as a teacher don’t get stale and later bored. Let me finish by giving you a quick recap of why smart, successful instructors running the really profitable studios are certified by the The Pilates PhysicalMind Institute.
